LBP are pleased to announce that the LBP Committee considered 11 local charities and selected Adur Special Needs Project as the new LBP Charity of the year.

Jon Rush, ASNP Trustee commented "Thank you to the Lancing Business Park Committee and members for choosing Adur Special Needs Project (ASNP) as their new Charity of the Year. We are thrilled to be given this opportunity to work with the businesses and employees on the Park whilst having fun and raising money for our local cause.

Adur Special Needs Project runs Play Schemes on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month during term time at Herons Dale School in Shoreham. We look after local children who have registered Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. Our Charity aims to achieve three things:

    • Provide fun and stimulating play and learning activities for children between the ages of 5 and 15
    • Provide valuable respite time for the families
    • Provide vocational paid work and training for people above the age of 16 in the local community

We are looking forward to the next year and we will be providing LBP businesses with fundraising ideas as well as a summary of the events we already have in the pipeline. We hope that we can have a successful fundraising year and have a lot of fun at the same time.

Yesterday started with the mantra ‘Don’t look down’ and within seconds of arriving at the I360 on Brighton seafront it quickly changed to ‘Don’t look up’.

No wonder it’s reported as the highest controlled descent in the UK, the structure affectionately known as The Donut is sky-scraping, with 531ft of sheer drop! Thoughts immediately turned to ‘I’m the Donut here, for agreeing to do this on behalf of Lancing Business Park!’

No time for second thoughts though as both Lancing & Sompting Food Bank and Care for Veterans are facing a very hard winter and need all the support they can get. Numbers needing the support of the Food Bank have soared recently and the Food Bank are concern how they will meet this year’s demand. The current economic climate has resulted in a major drop in donations for Care for Veterans, leaving a very worrying hole in their budget and concern over how they will continue to provide all their services for our dear veterans.

Greeted by Martin Bloomfield of Seaside Creative Ltd, who kindly agreed to photograph the event for posterity and a whole raft of supporters offering stiff drinks to set me on the way. Unfortunately having to rain check the drink offers until after, as definitely needed a clear head to embark on this adventure (ok honestly, the event had a strict no alcohol policy and couldn’t risk jeopardizing the funding).

After a day of awful rain, the clouds disappeared and the wind dropped to provide the most perfect clear night, with no excuse not to descend. Matt Clifton-Bowley from UK Pick & Pack and I joined the fourteen other adventures on the long journey to the top. We both agreed that going first would be a foolish move, especially considering the previous event delay whilst safety equipment was sourced from Germany. We watched as the first descended, grateful to be slightly later in the proceedings.

Matt took the leap ahead of me with real confidence, which helped settle my concerns. Pure concentration required to ensure that my accident-prone nature did not surface and to conquer the initial emergence from the pod. I must say I’m not keen to ever do that bit again, as I swung like a rag doll at 531ft from the ground, very proud not to have screamed and to quickly have regained control! Then onto the descent, which was breathtaking, emerging from the clouds to witness the beauty of Brighton’s illuminated skyline. Halfway down even managing to release my desperate grip on the rope, to wave at the spectators below.

It was all going so well until the ground approached quicker than expected, leaving me as the only abseiler to land on their bum! Oh well, I tried my best!

And then to quickly pass our learnings to Alex Pulford of Sussex Transport, who stepped into the breach at the last minute to fill a vacant slot in the preceding group. ‘Empty your pockets, it’s important that you focus when instructed how to emerge from the pod and try your hardest to hide that you’ve drunk a couple of pints!’ Well done Alex, you descended like a star!

I’m still in shock that I actually did it and very proud to represent LBP in helping to raise £1,984, to be shared by these two worthwhile local charities. LBP and myself would like to say a huge thank you to the following businesses for their kind donations and as always for the wonderful support of my family and friends:

    Many thanks

Damian Pulford, Chairman of Lancing Business Park (LBP) and MD of Sussex Transport has been based on the park for more than 20 years. During this time Damian has developed relationships with many of the businesses based here and appreciates the benefits this can bring to your business. LBP is an active community, with the BID committed to encouraging inter-park trading to support business based on the park and help cut carbon emissions.

Damian said ‘The past 18 months have been difficult for us all, whether it be dealing with impact of the lockdowns, changes in European trade and logistics or identifying additional staff and materials for surges in demand, it has definitely not been business as usual! The BID has been working behind the scenes connecting businesses on the park to help solve issues and meet demand, but we do not want it to stop there.

It is uncertain how long the recent lifting of restrictions will last, but in the meantime we have a real chance to transform supply chains, to help safeguard businesses going forward regardless of whether there will be any restriction in the Autumn. Why wait months for supplies or services from elsewhere in the country or Europe, when a business on the park may be able to help you, substantially reducing delivery times and often at a discounted rate.’

The BID website offers a free Member Directory, which lists all the companies on the park who are keen to promote their products and services, many with discounts for businesses based on the park. We ask that you please review your listing to make sure it displays your current information and if you find your business is not listed, then please complete the quick Member application so you can add your company details free of charge. This is really worthwhile, as the LBP Member Directory is on public display and is visited by thousands of businesses a year, so you will not only be promoting your business on the park, but nationwide and internationally. Don’t just take our word for it, please see below the email LBP received from Lawrence Boon, MD of Fizz Creations in Commerce Way.

Lawrence said ‘I thought I would take a minute to say a few words about our Business Park and how lucky we are to be part of such a varied and vibrant business community. After 10 years in an isolated unit in Shoreham, to be part of such a well-run park is a real pleasure. The more you look and become involved then the more you find and the greater the benefits.

Just in the past recent period Fizz has had:

    • Multiple large deliveries professionally fulfilled by Sussex Transport
    • Supplies of skin care products from Pasante Health Care
    • Our drains cleared by Ist Clearflow
    • Some excellent re-upholstery from TL Burtenshaw
    • Our IT requirements well provided by 5-Rings, especially important during the transition to homeworking
    • Storage and co-working with Parafix & Ruhrpumpen
    • Gym classes & facilities provided by South Coast Gym
    • Our offices beautifully fitted by Phoenix Systems
    • Car serviced and MOT’d plus tyres from Setyres
    • And car fantastically repaired and resprayed by Wheatleys Accident Repair Centre, great friendly service.
    • Fantastic clearance and demolition work by Rabbit as well as provision of our waste services
    • Our HR needs well & studiously fulfilled by HR Smart
    • Our cleaning done by Core Cleaning who started their business on the park

Then I have to say a massive thanks for the great work the BID does with the LBP  Committee who are excellent, to keep us all together, providing excellent support and advice through the pandemic, and beyond. The relationships the BID develops and maintains with the Council, the Police, Traffic, Environment Agency, Worthing & Adur Chamber and so many more help and benefit us all and keep the wheels turning, thank you.

I think as a business park we need to pat ourselves on the back, realise the fantastic opportunities we have and where possible continue to look within for our business partners.’
