Eighth Night of LBP Road Improvements Update

10 July 2025 7:44 AM | Anonymous

Works status: On Schedule

Please note that flow will return to the correct direction on the one-way system for tonight, but parking is still suspended from 8pm to enable repair works.

A difficult programme of resurfacing was completed last night whilst retaining full access to the one-way system, albeit the wrong way round again.

As a result, the Marlborough Road/Winston Road Junction now has a beautiful unrutted surface to enable safe entrance to the park, along with all the way in front of the Chartwell Road entrance down to halfway across Sussex Transport’s entrance near Commerce Way. The crew have deliberately stopped slightly shy of the previously planed surface, as tonight is all about the north end of Marlborough Road.

We have seen a few road collapses at the north end of Marlborough Road over the past couple of years and West Sussex Highways has therefore commissioned strengthening works on this section to help prevent future issues. The equipment being used tonight will overhang the edges of the strengthened area and therefore Dean has planned ahead to ensure the equipment doesn’t damage any of the newly laid surface. By the end of tonight the final section of Marlborough Road will be strengthened and resurfaced. On Friday, please could everyone drive carefully on this section whilst the works cure.

Last night the crew also planed the whole of Commerce Way, ready for resurfacing on Friday night. Please drive really carefully on Commerce Way for today and tomorrow as the road surface is currently pretty rough, kicking up stones and lots of dust. Apologies to the vehicle owners parking in Commerce Way over the next two days, as the dust level will be determined by the speed of the travelling vehicles.

Tonight, please only use the Commerce Way entrance if you are heading down Commerce Way or Peter Road, as the crew working on the end of Marlborough Road will be overflowing into Commerce Way. Please therefore be patient with the workers to gain access to the rest of Commerce Way and Peter Road tonight.

Please can everyone else use the Winston Road entrance to access the rest of the park tonight, as the Marlborough Road/ Commerce Way Junction will be completely closed from 8pm to enable the strengthening works. There is a lot to get through here and the crew will not have time for any interruptions as they are trying to clear the road ready for any 5am starters.

Unfortunately, the heat is prolonging the surface curing time and therefore LBP instructed HGV drivers not to turn their wheel whilst stationery and vehicle loaders to place plywood under their runners before loading or unloading.  However, where these instructions have not been followed the surface has been damaged. It is essential that we avoid damage as much as possible, else weak points will be created in the road surface and the surface will degrade quickly over time.

FM Conway has therefore commissioned special equipment arriving just for tonight, to hopefully address the areas of damage found in Chartwell Road and Blenheim Road. A large pad will heat the damaged areas tonight so that the surface can be repaired as best as possible. Please drive careful passed these repair works to safeguard the crew.

Once this work is complete, we will be left with any further areas of damage that occur, so please can you ensure all your drivers and delivery drivers are very careful over the next few days to enable the surface to fully cure undamaged.

Thank you.
