Sir Robert Woodard Academy Events - Status Update
This year the Sir Robert Woodard Academy is taking part in the National Theatre Connections 2017 Youth Theatre Festival. Each year National Theatre Connections offer a unique opportunity for youth theatres and school theatre groups nationwide, to stage new plays that have been written particularly for young people to perform at the festival in leading theatres across the UK.
The Sir Robert Woodard Academy has selected the play Status Update by Tim Etchells a British artist and writer. The performance will be held in the Alan Strong Theatre at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th February at 7.00pm. The performance will be attended by a Director from the National Theatre Connections and will be performed by 26 students from SRWA’s years 10, 12 and 13.
Status Update is based around the life of teenagers and is described by National Theatre Connections as “an unflinching and funny catalogue of the things teenagers learn, believe and have sussed out about the world. From the ridiculous to the highly charged, all these truths and half-truths are laid bare before us, without the safety net of character or fiction”.
Once the play has been performed on home territory, the ten regional theatre groups will play at their partner theatres; SRWA students will perform at their partner, the Minerva Theatre in Chichester, on 24th March. In the Summer, there may also be an opportunity to perform the play at the National Theatre in London.
Tickets are £5.00 for adults and £3 for concessions and are available to purchase on the Academy website or from the Academy Box Office on 01903 875507.
